Christ The First Fruit Because of His Resurrection
I Corithians
Introduction: 3 Examples of those Jesus Raise from The Dead
1. Jairus Daughter - Luke 8:40-46
2. The Widow's Son from Nain - Luke 7:11-17
3. Lazarus = John 11:1-44
Things to note:
a. They all had died
b. They all had been dead for a length of time
c. They all were treated like dead people
d. They all were alive again
e. They all would one day die again
1. Special side note brought up in this passage: The Baptism For The Dead
1. A rite of a pagan religion
2. A vicarious rite done by one for another
3. A rite to prepare one for the after life
4. A rite that some in the Corinthian church no doubt had adopted
5. Paul uses this false view of baptism to underscore the truth of Christ's Resurrection
2. The Order of The Resurrection From Among The Dead
a. Christ's resurrection makes Him The First Fruit
(1) First fruit was the first sheaf gathered to be a sacrifice to The Lord
(2) First fruit was the example and guarantee of more to come
(3) Christ's resurrection guarantees to all those in Christ, they also will rise from the dead
b. Those Who Are In Christ
(1) Christ is the example established
(2) Christ is the guarantee to all those who are in Christ
(3) Christ at His Second Coming will gather all those who are in Him (The Rapture)
c. The Tribulation Saints
(1) Those who are saved during the Tribulation
(2) Those who have died for their faith in Christ during the tribulation
d. The Dead
(1) After the 1000 year reign of Christ as King on the earth
(2) After all enemies have been destroyed, dead, the grave, hell, the anti Christ, the false Prophet and Satan
Conclusion: Voiding The Resurrection
a. Gives the pagan no reason to baptize the dead
b. Gives the believer no reason to suffer persecution and death
c. Gives the believer no reason to live for the glory of God; eat and drink for tomorrow we die.
d. Gives the believer no reason to avoid evil company
But God!
(1) God will put all enemies under the feet of Christ our King
(2) God will establish a new heaven and a new earth
(3) God will be all and in all!
