A. Birth
B. 8 days later
    (1) Circumcision, a sign of the Covenant with Abraham
    (2) Puts Jesus under the law
    (3) Done at Bethlehem
    (4) His Name given
C. Presentation at The Temple in Jerusalem 40 days later
    (1) Mary's purification service
    (2) A burnt offering and a sin offering; for the poor; a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons
    (3) First born males belonged to The Lord
    (4) Since the tribe of Levi was set aside to serve as priest, the parents could “buy back” or redeem their first born son with 5 shekels

1. Simeon
    a. Filled and led by the Holy Spirit in the example of those of the Old Testament period
    b. Spoke as a prophet
        (1) The Lord had given Simeon a promise
        (2) The Lord fulfilled that promise that day
        (3) Jesus was The Promised Savior for all people
        (4) A light for The Gentiles
        (5) The glory of The Lord for Israel
        (6) This Child will cause many to rise and to fall in Israel
        (7) The Child will be spoken against
        (8) This Child's death will also pierce Mary's soul
        (9) This Child will cause the thoughts of the hearts of many to be revealed

2. Anna
    a. A prophetess
    b. Filled and lead by The Holy Spirit in the example of those of The Old Testament period
    c. An old woman probably over 100 years old example; 15 years old when married, lived as a wife 7 years, lived as a widow for 84 years, about 106 years old
    d. Was daily at the Temple serving The Lord
    e. Fasted and prayed night and day for the coming Messiah
    f. Praised God for the arrival of The Messiah
    g. Shared the good news to all in Jerusalem who were also looking for the Messiah

3. The Wise Men - Matt. 2:1-12
    a. Herod the Great was from Esau and was an enemy of the Jew - King because of political motives
    b. These men came from the East on a 2 year journey to worship The King
    c. They found Jesus in a house in Bethlehem with Mary and Joseph
    d. They presented royal gifts to Jesus and returned home under the leadership of The Lord

Conclusion: Luke did not include this part of The Story but Matthew did
    a. Prophecy was fulfilled with Jesus birth
    b. Bethlehem was the place - Mich 5:2
    c. The flight to Egypt and return - Hos.11:1
    d. The death of the boy children in Bethlehem, Jer. 31:15
    e. The return to Nazareth to live Judge 13:5

Luke was writing to Gentiles this story. Matthew was writing to Jews this story, but the story speaks the same message, The Son of God was born to be the Promised Savior of both Jews and Gentiles therefore the whole world celebrates the birth of Jesus The Christ, The Savior of The World
